2017 East Bench

Ridge Vineyard, Healdsburg, Calif.

The Winery:

The Ridge Vineyards adventure began in 1885 in the state of California in the western United States. In the mountainous region of Santa-Cruz, near Monte Bello Ridge, Dr. Osea Perrone purchased a small piece of land.

Vines were quickly planted on the calcareous soils of Monte Bello and the grapes were used to make the first wine in 1892. After William Short took over in the 1940s, the winery finally became known as Ridge Vineyards in 1962.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel occupy the majority of the vineyard, complemented by Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Petite Syrah. Although the winery is known for its red wines, Ridge Vineyards has also produced an exceptional Chardonnay since 1962.

Today, the winery enjoys an excellent reputation around the world, following a very simple philosophy: minimal intervention throughout the winemaking process results in outstanding wines that are characterized primarily by their unique fruit. Ridge Vineyards is certainly one of the most exceptional producers of great California wines.

The Wine:

East Bench Zinfandel has been vinified 100 percent varietally by the winery since 2006. The grape variety is considered the American clone of the Primitivo, and so one expects here mean hin an extract-rich wine after southern Italian model. But the Ridge East Bench Zinfandel can do so much more. The natural cultivation of the vineyard, the single vineyard vinification as well as the special climatic conditions of the altitude are unique.  In the glass, the wine presents itself with a strong ruby red. The nose immediately reveals two components: ripe, sweet black cherry and the influence of oak barrel aging. Silky yet demanding on the palate, the tannins are polished but definitely present and animate with drinkability. Red-fruited aromas round out the flavor picture on the palate. A sophisticated wine with plenty of juiciness, pressure and a lingering finish.

2016 Numanthia

Bodega Numanthia, Valdefinjas, Zamora
D. O. Toro, Spain

The Wine
The wine wraps itself in a rich, bright cherry red with garnet hues. This intense, aromatic red wine shows excellent hints of blueberry, black cherry and black currant. The fruity part is accompanied by notes of fine spice, toasted notes, baking aromas, mocha and chocolate. On the palate it reveals its full potential, is concentrated and spirited with a good structure. The perfectly polished tannins provide a smooth mouthfeel and complexity. The long finish with comforting toasted notes completes the harmonious taste experience.

The winery
Numanthia is the reference winery in Toro, one of the most exciting Spanish wine regions. The name recalls the ancient city of Numancia, whose inhabitants heroically withstood the Roman siege, preferring to die rather than surrender. The vines show similar steadfastness - surviving all "attacks" of phylloxera for 140 years and withstanding extreme conditions in one of the driest and most exciting growing areas in Europe.

With the outstanding ratings in many wine guides, the relatively young winery proved its ability and potential. The foundation of the collection is the production and selection of the best grapes of the terroir in Toro. The grapes from the low-yielding old vines are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness, but only when they have a high fruit intensity and concentration. The vinification thereafter extracts the full potential, especially the intense fruit aromas typical of Tinta de Toro, as well as structure and elegance. With the heritage of Spanish history and its exceptional natural potential, Numanthia shows an intense and spirited taste experience.

2018 Chateau Brun

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

Famille Brun, Saint-Christoph-des-Bardes

The winery

Château Brun is located in the eastern part of the Bordeaux region in the Gironde department of France. The vines grow on the slope of a hill northwest of Saint-Émilion, one of the best and most famous wine-growing regions. The village of Saint-Émilion and the region's wine-growing area have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Family owned since 1571, Château Brun is the oldest family winery in the entire appellation. The winery is not too well known, but among insiders it is a real insider tip with a legendary reputation. Hervé Brun runs the winery today and personally controls the vines at every stage. At his side he has the well-known oenologist Gilles Pauquet. The estate grows vines of the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc varieties. Some of the vines of the Merlot variety are over 65 years old.

The wine

The grapes are picked exclusively by hand. The maceration takes place in traditional concrete tanks, as it did a hundred years ago. The aging lasts at least eighteen months. Only one third of the aging takes place in new barriques. This results in a well-balanced Grand Cru with optimal fruit aromas and a fantastic light vanilla note. In the glass, the red wine fascinates with an intense ruby red. On the palate, there are aromas of blueberries, ripe red berries, black blueberries underlined by a hint of mocha. It gives itself powerful, fruity and with a touch of spice. A fantastic experience and a sensational pleasure!

2021 Grauburgunder

Quality wine, dry

Winery Knipser, Laumersheim, Palatinate

The Wine

This Pinot Gris comes from two sites, which are characterized by a powerful loess layer. In the subsoil there is limestone. The wine was vinified reductively and fruit-accentuated in stainless steel tanks. Fullness and complexity is given by aging in barriques used several times. On the nose there is an intense aroma reminiscent of pear, melon and banana. On the palate, the fruity impression continues, supported by an elegant melting. A long-lasting finish completes the harmonious overall impression.

The winery

Knipser Winery is one of the best wineries in Germany, its home has been Laumersheim in the northern Palatinate since 1876. Today it is still run as a family winery by brothers Volker and Werner Knipser and his son Stephan Knipser. The winery, also known as Johannishof, which was originally a mixed farm that also grew fruit and vegetables, includes a restaurant with the well-known vinotheque "Halbstück".

Since 1993, the Knipser winery has been a member of the VDP, the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates. The vineyards stretch from the Freinsheimer Höhe in the south to the edge of the neighboring village of Dirmstein to the north and can boast renowned sites such as Großkarlbacher Burgweg, Laumersheimer Kirschgarten, Laumersheimer Steinbuckel and Dirmsteiner Mandelpfad.

The 75 hectares of vineyards are planted with small parcels of red and white grape varieties, with Pinot Noir making up the lion's share of the red wine and Riesling the lion's share of the white wine.

2021 Rosé

Quality wine, dry

Winery Hey, Naumburg, Saale/Unstrut

The Wine

The rosé from the Hey winery presents itself as a dazzling salmon pink in the glass and animates with a fine fruity bouquet of blueberries and raspberries.

blueberries and raspberries to drink. On the palate, it appears fresh and soft with an elegant acid structure and aromas of wild strawberries, peach and slightly herbaceous notes of thyme.

The cuvée consists of Blauem Zweigelt, Späburgunder and Portugieser, all of which grow on deep shell limestone. The grapes were carefully and selectively harvested by hand in the fall. The aging took place in stainless steel tanks.

The winery

The Hey winery is located just a few kilometers from Naumburg in the Saale/Unstrut wine-growing region. With the acquisition of the historic estate as well as a small parcel of land in the well-known Naumburger Steinmeister site, parents Sigrun and Reinhard Hey laid the foundation for today's winery in 2001; after studying oenology in Geisenheim, son Matthias returned to his home in 2007 and shortly thereafter presented his own first vintage.

In the meantime, the Hey family cultivates a total of around 8.5 hectares of vines. The grape harvest in the largely non-mechanizable steep slopes is done selectively by hand without exception. The portfolio of grape varieties is dominated by Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Blauer Zweigelt.

In the cellar, Matthias Hey increasingly relies on traditional winemaking methods: spontaneous fermentation, long maceration periods, and sufficient time for aging help the wines to develop their own character. A sure instinct, the courage and joy of experimentation, and good old-fashioned 'gut feeling' are more important to him than modern technology.

In 2019, the winery was accepted into the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP). Matthias Hey is also a founding member and chairman of the association 'Breitengrad 51'.

Melie & Friends: Melanie Stumpf & Martin Schmitt, Randersacker, Franconia

Martin is without a doubt one of the best winemaking talents in Franconia. From "Vinum" to "Falstaff", "Feinschmecker" and "Eichelmann" to "Gault&Millau", Martin is always at the top of the wine guides.
Melie comes from a small family winery and grew up with winemakers and their wines. Professionally, too, the trained journalist has always remained faithful to wine and in particular to the Franconian wine of her homeland. Even during her stations abroad.

In the early summer of 2021, Melie asked her old school friend Martin if he could implement the idea of a wine she had in mind. Martin, whose vineyards are currently undergoing conversion to organic viticulture, immediately found the idea interesting and started looking for wine combinations.

June 2021: first appraisal of the base wines. Slowly Martin and Melie felt their way. There was a lot of tasting, a lot of combining and finding for good and then for not so good. "At some point we had the combination that even after tasting it a few times, still knocked our socks off. That's how it tastes, we had found it," they both say today.

Can you smell and feel home? The feeling of the lush Main meadows underfoot, the heat of the shell limestone in the vineyards at the height of summer, or the smell that wafts out of the many Franconian inns on Sundays. For both Mainfranken is pure home.
Exactly this feeling of life from the banks of the Main was to be captured in a bottle. The area between Würzburg and Bamberg is a small paradise. Here you can find everything you need for a good life. Fish, meat, vegetables and artisan wine.
The result of their collaboration combines Franconian shell limestone, French laissez faire, good feelings and a colorful lightness in one bottle. The little luxury for every day called mélie-mélo.

"3 rios"

The wine
"3 rios" is a cuvée of 3 grape varieties. Here the Alvarinho stands for intense aromas, depth, structure and body, the Loureiro for elegance, intensity, floral notes and the typical touch of laurel, while Avesso provides acidity, minerality, yellow notes and almond aromas. The vineyards are located on 3 rivers with unique microclimates. In the 2019 vintage, the wine stands out for its cool aromatics with an intense aroma of citrus, saline herbs and barely ripe apples. On the palate, the Vinho Verde is lean, delicately grassy but also stony. Here, a fine acidity ties into the wine's delicate structure, which is marked by mint, pineapple and lemons.

The winemaker
Anselmo Mendes is one of the great pioneers of white wine production in Portugal. While for a long time "Vinho Verde", especially abroad, stood mainly for slightly sweet and slightly carbonated summer wines that also had to be aromatically "green" to live up to their name, a small group of winemakers in Vinho Verde raised the style of these wines to a new level. Since his childhood, Anselmo Mendes, who comes from a family of winemakers, has spent his life between the vineyard and the cellar. In 1987, immediately after completing his studies in agronomy and enology, he began to make white wines from the Alvarinho grape. In doing so, he was concerned with bringing out its specific character. After a decade of intense tireless research and experimentation, the time had finally come in 1998 when his first wine, "Muros de Melgaço," was released.

2021 Merlot Rosato

IGP Rosato, Ômina Romana, Velletri, Latium

The winery

Omina Romana is a family-run winery founded in 2007 by the Börner family. The choice of location fell on the region around Velletri, 40 km southeast of Rome amidst the volcanic and green hills of the Castelli Romani overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The Börner family realizes the vision to continue with precision and knowledge the more than 2500 years of history of viticulture with the highest quality. After the First World War, this tradition was forgotten. Today, top quality wines are produced on the basis of experience and science, commitment and passion, coupled with love for nature. Here one feels committed to the ancient tradition of "Vinum Velletrum". The philosophy of the winery is "Mens et Manus".

The wine

This elegant rosé wine is made from 100% Merlot grapes grown on the sandy loam soil of Lazio. It shows intense aromas of fragrant grapefruit and red fruits, combined with a subtle herbal note. On the palate, it gives itself powerfully with nuances of red ripe forest fruits with a hint of block chocolate. The alcohol content of 13% by volume is well integrated and supports the powerful texture through to the lingering finish. This wine is a perfect companion to light meat dishes and summer creations from the grill.

Geheimrat "J"

Quality wine dry, Winery Wegeler, Oestrich-Winkel, Rheingau

The wine
Following the principle of the great châteaux in Bordeaux, which do not use site designations, Weingut Wegeler understand its flagship Geheimrat "J" as the "first wine" of the estate in Oestrich. Great wines from up to 15 different "Erste Gewächs" vineyards, form the basis of each vintage's blend.

Extreme quantity limits, a late and multiple selective hand harvest, as well as slow fermentation and long aging on the fine lees in the barrel guarantee the highest quality and great pleasure. Geheimrat "J" unmistakably combines the racy and elegant character of the mineral sites around Rüdesheim and Geisenheim with the characterful and creamy Rieslings of the loess sites of the middle Rheingau.

The Winery
The history of the Wegeler wineries is closely linked to the history of Riesling. Julius Wegeler married the daughter of the sparkling wine producer Deinhard in 1861. After the death of his father, he was put in charge of the company. The company flourished and so it was decided to buy a vineyard in the Rheingau in 1882.

The vineyards in Rüdesheim and Oestrich-Winkel are still part of the Wegelers' family property today - as is the manor house on Friedensplatz in Oestrich-Winkel, where the winery administration is still based.

The Bernkastel manor house was founded by Julius Wegeler in 1900. After the legendary purchase of a large part of the Bernkastel Doctor, he had a wine press house built in 1902 and 1903 in the Kues district according to the principle of gravitation. With this idea of a gentle wine processing he was ahead of his time. The total estate of the two Wegeler estates in the Rheingau and on the Moselle is currently 60 hectares. With 45 hectares of vines in the Rheingau, the estate is one of the larger producers in the region.

March 2022

Premier Cru „Vaillons“

2018, Chablis, Benoît Droin, Yonne, Chablis, Frankreich

The wine

The Chablis gives a rich golden yellow color in the glass. Aromas of slightly ripe yellow apples, and Amalfi lemon and a touch of vanilla dominate the nose. On the palate, a subtle nuance of peach completes the overall impression, which ends in a long harmonious finish. The medium body shows elegance and the meanwhile perfectly integrated acidity gives freshness and structure to the wines.

The winery

Domaine Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin is already in the hands of the 14th generation, making it one of the oldest "family histories" of Chablis. Since 1620, ownership, experience and knowledge of the characteristics of the great terroirs of Chablis have always been passed from father to son. Today, the Droins own 25 hectares of vineyards in prime locations. Benoît Droin is a gifted vinificateur who - among other things - perfectly translates the character of the individual crus and the minerality of their soils through the subtle interplay of barrel and tank aging and brings them to the bottle. The result is absolutely great Chablis wines - Domaine DROIN is listed among the top five in the classification of the best wines of the "Revue du Vin de France".

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano

2014, DOCG, Tenuta Valdipiatta, Montepulciano, Tuscany, Italy

The wine
Valdipiatta's Vino Nobile was vinified following a careful selection of Sangiovese and Canaiolo Nero grapes from the estate's best vineyards. They are harvested and vinified separately and then skillfully combined to express the elegance, finesse and terroir of Montepulciano. The wine was aged for 6 months in small French oak barrels, then for 12 months in a large Slovenian oak barrel. Before sale, it rested in bottle for 6 months. The nose reveals intense aromas of wild berries with a slight hint of vanilla. An easily tasted acidity makes the wine seem lively and fruity. Long lasting, the wine ends in a harmonious finish.

The winery
At the end of the 80s of the last century, Giulio Caporali acquired an old farmhouse northwest of Montepulciano, including a few hectares of vines, and over the following years persistently shaped it into one of the best Vino Nobile wineries. The vineyard area has now grown to over 30 hectares. After the young and ambitious Miriam Caporali took over the management of the small but fine winery in 2002, the quality of the wines was once again increased and the production was converted to organic farming. The ratings of the classic Vino Nobile and Riserva are always on par with the best producers of the region, while the wines have remained absolutely affordable and thus have an excellent price-quality ratio! In great years, in addition to the Riserva, the "Vigna d'Alfiero" is also produced in limited quantities, a single-vineyard Vino Nobile from the estate's oldest parcel of Sangioveto vines over 50 years old. We had the pleasure to welcome Miriam Caporali on the occasion of our second Culinary Open in 2019.

Puro Corte

2019 Puro Corte
Dieter Meier, Alto Agrelo, Mendoza, Argentina.

For the Puro Corte, fully ripe grapes of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged in French barrique barrels. The result is a deep dark red, powerful, harmonious and fruit-driven wine with subtle spice and vanilla notes and an intense fruit rim of dark berries and fully ripe plums.

2017 Puro Corte D'Oro.
Dieter Meier, Alto Agrelo, Mendoza, Argentina.

This cuveé of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Malbec displays a fruit-driven bouquet with juicy red fruit aromas and subtly spicy vanilla notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied, complex, with powerful yet beautifully integrated tannins. A powerful balanced body with a juicy fruit and fine toasted aromas lead to a long-lasting finish.

The winery
The Puro wine line is owned by Swiss winemaker Dieter Meier, who has lived and worked in Argentina since the 1990s. He fell in love with the Alto Agrelo growing region, which is one of the best in the country. The dry, hot climate with high day-night temperature differences at 1000 meters above sea level and the meltwater of the Andes offer perfect, unique conditions for outstanding and profound wines. These are produced according to strict ecological and biological criteria. In addition, he runs a cattle farm of 10000 animals on more than 20000 hectares and is active as an internationally known conceptual artist and musician. He celebrated great successes in the 1980s with the electropop group Yello. He is also the owner of restaurants in Zurich, Frankfurt and Berlin.

St. Laurent Reserve

2018, Quality wine, dry, Winery Wagner-Stempel, Siefersheim, Rheinhessen

The wine
In the glass, the wine presents a clear purple color with dark purple reflections. An intense aroma of ripe wild berries and black cherries is underlaid with spicy notes of pepper and clove. This is joined by balsamic hints of cedar. On the palate, the wine is dry with a delicate acidity. It has a powerful pronounced body flanked by the silky tannin structure. The alcohol gives the wine great length and high balance. Aging took place in oak barrels after a late selective harvest by hand. The wine was harvested from various red wine parcels in the Siefersheim vineyards with silty loam and underlying rhyolite rock.

The winery
In 1993, Daniel Wagner took over the reins at his parents' Wagner-Stempel winery in Siefersheim and has led it unwaveringly to the top in Germany. He has made his philosophy of terroir-driven wines with individual character a reality. Quality grows in the vineyard - which is why Daniel relies on careful, organic vineyard care with elaborate manual labor and ensures healthy soils with balanced greenery. Selective hand harvesting is just as much a matter of course as gentle grape processing and sensitive aging in the cellar, as well as - depending on the requirements of the must - sensitive and slow development in stainless steel or wood, depending on the grape variety. His vineyards are located in the Siefersheim sites Heerkretz, Höllberg and Goldenes Horn. The special feature of these sites is the porphyry rock in the subsoil, which gives the wines their own unique character.

IGP Latium
2013, Omina Romana Winery, Velletri, Italy

The wine
Diana Nemorensis is a blend of the classic Bordeaux grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. This wine, dedicated to the Roman goddess of hunting and protector of femininity DIANA, embodies elegance, robustness and the living power of nature. Fermentation took place partly in stainless steel and partly in new and used French oak barriques. In the glass it appears ruby red with garnet reflections. Aromas of sour cherry, raspberry paired with tobacco and tamarind notes caress the nose. The palate is soft and enveloping, with silky and delicate tannins. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and carries the flavors into a long intense finish.

The winery
Omina Romana is a family-run winery founded in 2007 by the Börner family. The choice of location fell on the region around Velletri, 40 km southeast of Rome amidst the volcanic and green hills of the Castelli Romani overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Muga Reserva

2017, DOCa Rioja, Bodega Muga, Haro, Spain

The wine
The Rioja of Bodegas Muga, classified as Reserva, is undoubtedly a real cult wine, which has many friends worldwide. 70 percent Tempranillo, 20 percent Garnacha and 10 percent Mazuelo and Graciano are used for the Muga Reserva. All vines used are well over 15 years old and stand on terraced chalk-clay soils. The grapes are strictly selected both at harvest and upon delivery to the winery. Already the alcoholic fermentation takes place in large oak barrels and then follows the real specialty of Muga: the wine is aged for 24 months in small oak barriques, made in their own cooperage and thus precisely aligned with the requirements of the Reserva. After barrel aging, the wine spends another 12 months in bottle for a total aging of 36 months. In the glass a dark ruby red with bright reflections on the rim. The nose shows aromas of ripe sweet cherries and a fine but well integrated wood. This impression continues with a nice vanilla aroma on the palate. Fine-grained tannins and a powerful body give the wine structure and complexity.

The winery
Bodega Muga is a family winery with a long tradition in Haro, undoubtedly the most important wine village in Rioja. It is one of the pioneers of the region and has played a decisive role in shaping the modern style of wines of today. Only the same vineyards and parcels are ever used for the top red wines, from the estate's own holdings of about 250 hectares. They are planted almost exclusively with the typical red grape varieties of the region. These are Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo. The quality standard is very high, for example, the oaks for the barrique barrels are selected themselves and, as already described, produced in their own cooperage according to in-house criteria.

Grüner Veltliner -Amour Fou-

Quality wine dry
2019, Jurtschitsch Winery, Langenlois, Kamptal Valley

The wine
In search of the potential of Grüner Veltliner, Steffi and Alwin Jurtschitsch try many things. Ripe grapes from the Loiserberg were fermented partly in wooden barrels, partly in ceramic eggs over two weeks on the mash until an optimum of complexity, aroma and depth was achieved. It was then aged on the lees for 18 months. They would like to illustrate the affinity to the grape variety with the name "Amour fou = crazy love". The nose has almost untypical aromas for a Veltliner, but complex nuances of tangerine and grapefruit. It is delicately yeasty-mushy-nutty and is already here extremely coherent and inviting. On the palate, the whole diversity of this style unfolds: stale phenolic with discreet tannin, fine acidity, lots of grip with great drinking flow. A great natural wine - also for beginners! It is unfiltered and less sulfurized.

The winery
The traditional Jurtschitsch winery with its 16th-century Lesehof in Langenlois in the Kamptal is one of the most romantic wineries in Austria. The three brothers Edwin, Paul and Karl Jurtschitsch made it great with a successful division of tasks and great family responsibility. In the meantime, Edwin's son Alwin has taken the helm and completely taken over the winery together with his wife Stefanie from the Rhine-Hesse winery Gunderloch. Together they have managed to reinvent the winery, which is already established in the first league, and to make another qualitative leap forward. New projects are constantly being added; in addition to the classic range, there are some natural wines and several natural sparkling wines, so-called Pet Nats.

Puro Torrontés

2020, Dieter Meier, Alto Agrelo, Mendoza, Argentina

The Wine
With an area of 8100 hectares, the Torrontés grape variety is considered the most important Argentine white wine and is experiencing a small renaissance together with other white grape varieties from the New World. In the glass it presents a brilliant pale yellow color with greenish reflections. The nose offers aromas of white stone fruit, spicy muscat grapes and exotic fruits such as lychee and a hint of fragrant rose petals. On the palate, experience fresh flavors of citrus fruits like pink grapefruit and lime. Vegetal nuances complete the flavor picture. It shows fresh and powerful on the tongue with lively acidity and leads into a tart fruity long finish.

The winery
The Puro wine line is owned by Swiss winemaker Dieter Meier, who has lived and worked in Argentina since the 1990s. He fell in love with the Alto Agrelo growing region, which is one of the best in the country. Meier produces high-quality wines in Mendoza according to strict ecological and biological criteria. Rosa Schuh

Schieler quality wine
 2020, Winery Schuh, Sörnewitz, Saxony

The wine
The name Schieler is common in Saxony when speaking of a Rotling. Matthias Schuh presses an aromatic summery light wine from Kerner and Dornfelder with notes of apricot, strawberries and white gooseberries. A refreshing, well-integrated acidity plays around the palate, which strikes a perfect balance with the delicate residual sweetness. It goes perfectly with light dishes such as our shrimp with avocado or with seasonal salads at the GolfHütte. But also as a solo wine, it is sure to become a terrace favorite on balmy summer nights.

The winery
The heart of the Schuh winery - vinotheque, restaurant and cellar - is located in two listed farmsteads dating back to the 19th century, at the foot of the estate's own vineyards and in the middle of the Spaar Mountains near Meissen. The surrounding vineyards of Kapitelberg, Klausenberg and other steep slopes are cultivated. In 1990, the then 35-year-old winemaker Walter Schuh left the Moselle to found a winery in Sörnewitz. Together with his wife, he lovingly restored a half-timbered ensemble and expanded it to include a wine restaurant with guesthouse. A smooth generational transition took place in 2016, when the children Matthias and Katharina took over the winery. Farm is a member of the "Environmental Alliance in the Free State of Saxony" and was awarded in 2001 for its sustainable and gentle work by the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture. The transition to the next generation is also evident in the design: the previous Bordeaux red as the company color has been lightened to a fresh violet - as a sign of the dawn of a new era in which Katharina Pollmer and Matthias Schuh want to continue their parents' success story.

Quality wine, dry

2019, Randersacker Sonnenstuhl, Winery Störrlein-Krenig, Randersacker, Franconia

The wine
The Randersacker Sonnenstuhl is one of the most famous vineyards in Franconia. The exposed southern slope was detached from the Muschelkalk by Main more than 2 million years ago. The Prallhang is exposed to the south and, in combination with the Main, has a perfect microclimate for viticulture. The Silvaner of the winery Störrlein-Krenig has been growing here for many years. It is an elegant fruity type with aromas of barely ripe apples and quince. The balanced body is carried by a pleasant fruit acidity and ends in a dry finish. I recommend it with roasted freshwater fish and dishes with asparagus.

The winery
His grandfather used to tell Armin Störrlein about a precious treasure hidden in the vineyard. At the time, he didn't understand it. Today, Störrlein knows that soil and vines enter into a special marriage that produces great wines. Through the careful hand of the winemaker, they become "liquid gems." The native of Randersacker is convinced of this. But he has another credo, which is: "The beauty of a wine should be grown and not made." Under this motto, dry mineral wines are vinified from the grapes of the main grape varieties Silvaner and Burgundy, which do not deny their respective origins. Son-in-law Martin Krenig is also committed to this motto, with whose acreage the winery has now grown to almost 13 hectares.

Grauer Burgunder

Quality wine dry

 2018, Wechsler Winery, Westhofen, Rheinhessen.

A complex Pinot Gris with structure and finesse is created on deep loess-loam and lime-marl soils. After 18 hours of maceration and aging in stainless steel, the wine shines with delicate aromas of yellow pears and barely ripe apple. Its spicy melt and the mild acid structure make it an all-round talent in food accompaniment. It harmonizes perfectly with white meat, roasted fish or light vegetables. It also excels as a solo wine.

After Katharina Wechsler had already practically single-handedly developed her family's winegrowing business into one of the region's leading wineries since 2011, she has now also been the fully responsible owner of the 17-hectare enterprise in the old town center of Westhofen since 2018. All work is planned and coordinated by Katharina. She defines the wine style and is responsible for the aging of the wines. The winery is currently in the conversion phase to certified organic viticulture. In the cellar, Katharina gives free rein to the development of her wines. Character, elegance and finesse are created here in the field of tension between skill, intuition and trust.

Quality wine, dry
2019, Winery Adeneuer, Ahrweiler, Ahr

This Pinot Blanc shows elegance with fresh acidity and fine fruit due to its dry development. It can be ideally combined with light appetizers. Its moderate body and refreshing acidity also make it the perfect companion for late summer evenings. In the glass, the Pinot Blanc impresses with light yellow with green reflections. The bouquet is dominated by pome fruits of green-yellow apples, pears and quinces. The Pinot Blanc goes wonderfully with asparagus dishes or with crisp, fresh salads and juicy grilled meats. Those who prefer fish and seafood, such as a pasta frutti di mare, are also well equipped with the Pinot Blanc. The Adeneuer family has been growing grapes in the Ahr Valley for several centuries. This heritage has been carried since 1984 by two brothers - Frank and Marc Adeneuer. A few years ago, the winery was still a pure red wine estate. Since the demand for white wines has increased in recent years, Pinot Blanc was vinified for the first time in 2015, in addition to Late and Early Pinot Noir. The Pinot Blanc portfolio is to be further expanded in the coming years.

2019, Hey Winery, Naumburg, Saale/Unstrut.

With an intense rosé tone, the wine greets us in the glass. Fine aromas of raspberries and ripe strawberries are clearly smellable. This fruity impression continues on the palate and is supported by a strong texture. It shows itself very long-lasting and intense. The fine melting and balanced body together with the elegantly integrated acidity lead to a harmonious finish. It is a perfect food companion on the terrace and can also be enjoyed solo on a balmy summer night.

Matthias Hey is rightly considered the (co-)founder of a new generation of winemakers in Saale/Unstrut. The relatively young winery has developed over the past few years from an insider tip to a guarantor of first-class and expressive wines with character. On a total of currently five hectares, the family exclusively cultivates steep slopes, the harvest is done by hand. Matthias Hey sees wine not only as a product, but also as a cultural asset. Therefore, the picturesque winery regularly hosts culinary wine evenings, concerts and other cultural events.

Riesling "Vom Porphyr"

Quality wine, dry

 2018, Wagner-Stempel Winery, Siefersheim, Rheinhessen.

In the glass, the wine presents itself with a golden yellow color. The aroma combines intense notes of vineyard peach and apricot, as well as vegetal aromas of mint and lemon balm. The pronounced minerality and animating acidity in the wine successfully stand up to the full body and dense structure, creating a Riesling that is still playfully light and animating despite all its concentration and complexity. It has amazing length and comes off as very juicy and harmonious.

In the west of Rheinhessen, just a few kilometers from Bad Kreuznach, lies the idyllic wine village of Siefersheim. The Wagners have been growing grapes there for nine generations. In the early nineties of the last century, Daniel Wagner took over responsibility. Since then, he has concentrated on the classic grape varieties Silvaner, Pinot Blanc, and especially Riesling, and converted the farm to organic farming. The foundation stone for this was laid in 1845, and Wagner's ancestors turned the classic mixed vineyard into a winery known far beyond the borders of Rheinhessen and helped the Höllberg and Heerkretz vineyards achieve national importance.

Pinot Bianco „Kristallberg“

2017, Winery Elena Walch, Tramin, South Tyrol.

The Pinot Bianco "Kristallberg" shows itself multifaceted with great minerality. It impresses in the glass with clear, fresh straw yellow as well as in the nose with a bouquet of fruity aromas of fresh pears and white stone fruits. On the palate it shows spicy notes with green walnuts and slightly smoky and mineral aromas in the background. Elegance and juicy freshness, a youthful and stimulating liveliness with an exciting acidity play convince on the palate.

Elena Walch is a leading and family-owned winery of South Tyrol and belongs to the elite of Italian wine production with international success. An architect by profession, Elena Walch married into one of the oldest and most important wine families in the region and brought new, modern concepts to the traditional winery. Today, daughters Julia and Karoline Walch, now in the fifth generation, are entrusted with the responsibility of the family business. With 60 hectares under cultivation, Elena Walch is one of the most important players in South Tyrolean viticulture

Pouilly Fuissé Tête de Cuvée

Tête de Cuvée
2017, Château-Fuissé, Burgundy

The Pouilly-Fuissé "Tête de Cru" from Château-Fuissé is a single varietal Chardonnay from the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation in Burgundy. In the glass, the 2017 Pouilly-Fuissé "Tête de Cru" is very clear in a pale yellow with green highlights. Aromas of ripe light fruit, a dense minerality and an elegant aroma of wood dominate the nose. It also surprises with notes of almonds, caramel as well as fresh flowers and a fine fruit note. On the palate, this Chardonnay is characterized by an elegant freshness and minerality; the wine is very harmonious and leads to a long finish.

The Vincent family has been synonymous with the quality of Château-Fuissé for 5 generations. As the grape variety of the terroir, Chardonnay provides the basis of success and gives the wines of this château their particular expression throughout the vintages. Careful observation of nature allows each parcel to have its own individual cultivation method. After the hand harvest, a sorting of the grapes is carried out before they are then pressed. Each cuvée is processed separately, either in stainless steel tanks, or in barrique, depending on the character of each terroir.

April 2020

Winery von Winning, Deidesheim, Palatinate

2015, Pinot Blanc, quality wine, dry

For our April wine recommendation, we look to the Palatinate. The renowned von Winning winery, with its cellarmaster Stephan Attmann, specializes in aging wines in large wooden barrels and has caused quite a stir in the last decade. The former Dr. Deinhart winery was purchased in 2007 together with the Deidesheim wineries Bassermann-Jordan and Reichsrat von Buhl by the visionary entrepreneur Achim Niederberger, carefully transformed and brought back to bloom. The name of the winery was changed to "von Winning" (the name of Andreas Deinhart's son-in-law) and the catchy labels with the stylized "W" in various colorings have since been a testament year after year to exciting wines that are endowed with great potential.

Pinot Blanc I comes exclusively from old vines. On the nose we experience dense aromas of white fruits such as peach and pear, along with green elements of kiwi. The wood used is perfectly integrated and harmoniously supports the aroma. On the palate, this fruity aroma continues impressively. The wood notes are also clearly tasted here and support the pleasant mouthfeel with an intense creaminess and melting. The wine lingers long on the palate and leads into an elegant finish. The wine shows its true greatness and expressiveness at this mature stage.

Tinto sobre Lias

Cariñena D.O.

2018, Bodegas Añadas, Cariñena.

Bodegas Care are located in the heart of the D.O. Cariñena in the province of Zaragoza and is located in the Ebro Valley. Founded in 2000 by Angel Lazaro and Rafael Diaz, the winery is one of Spain's most interesting insider tips with enormous potential. No effort has been spared to build a modern winery with an exceptional technological and architectural standard.

In the glass, the wine presents a dark cherry red color with violet reflections. The palate reveals a wealth of fruity notes such as blackberry, raspberry with subtle nuances of vanilla and toffee.

The harvest is done by hand. The grapes are destemmed and transferred to the fermentation tanks without further pressing. After the 8-day maceration phase, alcoholic fermentation is initiated with pure yeasts. After drawing off from the mash and malolactic fermentation, the cuvémentation of the two grape varieties Grenache and Syrah takes place. Aging takes place for 4 months in new barriques before being bottled. Bodega Care offers a wide variety of bottle formats, and so we can offer you this wine in the open bar from both magnum and double magnum bottles.

February 2020

Freyburger Schweigenberg

Böhme & Daughters Winery, Gleina, Saale/Unstrut

2017, Pinot Noir quality wine, dry

Our recommendation for the month of February presents itself in the glass with an elegant ruby red color, typically transparent for Pinot Noir. The nose reveals aromas of cherry and blackberry with light smoky notes. This fruity impression continues intensely on the palate. A slight initial sweetness on the tip of the tongue leads to a harmonious overall impression supported by a perfectly integrated acidity. The wine aged for 18 months in used barriques. The subtle wood notes are easily tasted in the finish.

The winery Since 1986, wine has been a family affair at Böhme. In the small estate on the Saale and Unstrut rivers, three generations work together on wines from unique sites in the region. On an area of about five hectares, the grapes grow in the Freyburger Schweigenberg site and are pressed and vinified in the estate's own cellar. The individual sites at Freyburger Edelacker and Mühlberg as well as in Dorndorfer Rappental are characterized by fertile loess loam soils and shell limestone weathering. The steep and terraced sites can only be farmed by hand and continuously produce unique qualities, not least due to their mild microclimate.

January 2020

Bodega Marco Abella, Porrera

D.O.Q. Priorat
This cuvée with a high percentage of Grenache shows itself fresh and uncomplicated. Other grape varieties are Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The vinification is carried out separately by grape and plot, taking into account the different degree of ripeness of the grapes due to the different locations and altitudes. This is followed by aging of about 11 to 14 months in French oak. The wine develops a quite intense fruity aroma of cherries, raspberries and black forest berries. In addition, there are floral notes, aromas of cedar wood and vanilla and toasted notes from aging in barrique barrels.

The winery is located a few hundred meters north of the tranquil wine-growing village of Porrera, on land owned by the Abella family, which has been here for centuries. At the beginning of the 20th century, the grandfather Marco laid the foundation stone, in which he began with the viticulture. But it was his grandson David, after professional success in Barcelona, who returned to his homeland and founded the new winery on the soil of his ancestors. The slightly futuristic building, optimally designed for wine production, was completed in 2001. Together with his wife and an excellent team produce today typical, powerful, red wines.

December 2019

Winery Fürst, Bürgstadt/Main, Franconia

 Quality wine, dry

The red wine cuvée of Pinot Noir, Domina, Zweigelt and a touch of Cabernet Dorsa bears the name Parzival, named after the main character of a medieval drama by Wolfram von Eschenbach. Now no longer an insider tip, but a true flagship of the house, the wine aged for at least 12 months in barrique.

With its dark color, the cuvée is already a real highlight in the glass. Purple, bright and fiery, the red wine radiates a unique power of fascination. Fruity aromas of wild berries, herbal nuances and some undergrowth beguile the nose. This impression is completed by a delicate smokiness. On the palate, it also shows an elegant cool fruit, which enters into an exciting balance with a spicy pepper note. Well-integrated tannins and a harmonious minerality give the wine a long-lasting finish.

With their wines, the Fürst family has climbed to the top of the region. Junior Sebastian was named WINTER OF THE YEAR 2018 by FALSTAFF.

November 2019

Puro Corte d’Oro

2015, Mendoza, Argentina

Located in the small village of Agrelo, about 35 kilometers south of the city of Mendoza, the winery has the best growing conditions. The soils contain a variety of minerals that washed in from the Andes with the meltwater. The Puro line is created exclusively from certified organic grapes. Of course, Malbec - Argentina's distinctive grape variety - is the essential variety for the winery.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep dark red color with violet nuances. On the palate it is fruity with intense flavors of plum, cherry and a hint of vanilla. Full-bodied and complex, it presents itself on the palate with its harmonious body and perfectly integrated tannins. The 2015 vintage has a good balance between fruity and spicy components. The vines grow at very high altitudes and are exposed to particularly cold nights, which ensures that the physiological ripening process of the grapes slows down and fresh acidity, alcohol, tannin and fruity aroma can develop ideally.

October 2019

Barbera d’Alba Superoire „Ausario“

DOCG Barbera d'Alba

 Agricola Molino, Treiso, Piedmont

Father Virginio founded the winery in 1991. Successively land was acquired, so that now 14 hectares of vineyards are owned by the family. The vineyards are located in Treiso, Guarene and Costiglione, so they have a wide range of different soil formations. Barbera thrives on the sandy and marly soils.

Our Barbera d'Alba Superiore "Ausario" shows a deep dark red color with fine violet reflections. On the tongue it shines with elegant aromas of morello cherry, spices and vanilla. The aging in 1000 liter barrels and in barriques gives the wine complexity and depth. Despite this depth, it appears fresh and juicy. The wood is now perfectly integrated and the aging in bottle has done it good. It presents itself as a radiant representative of its grape variety and has nothing in common with the mass-produced wine of the last century.

September 2019

Bruchsaler Rothenberg

Winery Klumpp, Bruchsal, Baden

 Pinot Gris quality wine, dry

The Pinot Gris in the Bruchsaler Rothenberg site grows on a plateau with a high clay content. This poor soil causes the vines to root deeper. This allows water and nutrients to be absorbed from the deeper soil layers. Cool easterly winds help delay the harvest until optimal ripeness. The result is long-lived wines from old vines with high density and complexity.

On the nose, this Pinot Gris presents lush aromas of baked apples, quince and caramel. On the palate, the wine is powerful and densely structured. Aromas of dried fruits such as apricots and dates are complemented by lush, spicy nuances of malt candy, buttered caramel and roasted almonds. Highly mineral notes, a delicate hint of vanilla and some brown candy in the finish harmoniously round out the Pinot Gris. Mild acidity supports the complexity and leads into a long finish.

Part of the Pinot Gris is aged in new barriques. By merging with the other part, which was aged in stainless steel tanks, the wine acquires a fresh and harmonious style.
